I presented a seminar to my fellow vet colleagues and vet staff on Wednesday, 19 November 2014 at the Perth AVA offices. I brought with me my cognitive behaviour therapist, Tracey Lord who brought along her dog Zac. The audience were suitably impressed by Tracey’s mat training and basket muzzle de-sensitisation and counter conditioning demonstrations. The application of these techniques for practice vets can make task like nail clipping and venepuncture a whole lot easier in practice.
I also gave a case study of a dog I have recently treated for human directed aggression and demonstrated how important it is to gather history and the ways my methodology works through Education, Environmental interventions, Behaviour modification, Medication (sometimes) and follow up.
Big thanks to all who turned up as it shows me how much interest there is in the vet community in really understanding animal behaviour to ensure optimum health, which is really exciting.
