Dogs have been mans best friend for over 15, 000 years, they are the first domesticated species. Dog ownership is scientifically proven to have tremendous mental and physical health benefits. With the media spotlight on dog bites, I remind myself of the facts: most dog’s don’t bite and there is currently no scientific evidence to support that dog bites are on the rise. Education is key to dog bite prevention and with children at highest risk, the focus should be on this age group. Children from 18 months of age can and should be educated on how to appropriately interact with dogs.
